Extrapolating Side Information for Low-Delay Pixel-Domain Distributed Video Coding

چکیده
Distributed Video Coding (DVC) is a new video coding approach based on the Wyner-Ziv theorem. Unlike most of the existing video codecs, each frame is encoded separately (either as a key-frame or a Wyner-Ziv frame) which results in a simpler and lighter encoder since complex operations like motion estimation are not performed. The previously decoded frames are used at the decoder to estimate the Wyner-Ziv frames – the frames are coded independently but jointly decoded. To have a low-delay codec, the side information frames (estimation of the Wyner-Ziv frames to be decoded) must be extrapolated from past frames. This paper proposes a robust extrapolation module to generate the side information based on motion field smoothening to provide improved performance in the context of a low-delay pixeldomain DVC codec.

Maximum likelihood motion compensation for distributed video coding
Aspiring to provide robust low-complexity encoding for video, this work presents a hash-based transform domain distributed video codec, featuring a novel maximum likelihood motion compensation technique to generate high quality side information at the decoder. A simple hash is employed to perform overlapped block motion estimation at the decoder, which produces a set of temporal predictors on a...
متن کاملVideo Abstraction in H.264/AVC Compressed Domain
Video abstraction allows searching, browsing and evaluating videos only by accessing the useful contents. Most of the studies are using pixel domain, which requires the decoding process and needs more time and process consuming than compressed domain video abstraction. In this paper, we present a new video abstraction method in H.264/AVC compressed domain, AVAIF. The method is based on the norm...
متن کاملAn Auto-Regressive Model for Improved Low Delay Distributed Video Coding
In this paper, an auto-regressive (AR) model is proposed to generate the side information for low-delay distributed video coding (DVC). The side information generation of current Wyner-Ziv (WZ) frame t consists of two forward AR interpolations. First, each pixel within the rebuilt frame 1 t − is approximated as a linear combination of pixels within a spatial neighborhood along the motion trajec...
متن کاملImproving Frame Interpolation with Spatial Motion Smoothing for Pixel Domain Distributed Video Coding
Distributed video coding (DVC) is a new compression paradigm based on two key Information Theory results: the Slepian-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv theorems. A particular case of DVC deals with lossy source coding with side information at the decoder (Wyner-Ziv) and enables to shift the coding complexity from the encoder to the decoder. The solution here described is based on a very lightweight encoder le...
متن کاملLow-complexity feedback-channel-free distributed video coding using local rank transform
In this paper, we propose a new feedback-channel-free Distributed Video Coding (DVC) algorithm using Local Rank Transform (LRT). The encoder computes LRT by considering selected neighborhood pixels of Wyner-Ziv frame. The ranks from the modified LRT are merged, and their positions are entropy coded and sent to the decoder. In addition, means of each block of WynerZiv frame are also transmitted ...
